Pakshipathalam in Wayanad is a good place if you love to go on trekking tours. Walking through the steep trail, the trek offers some spectacular views that will definitely leave you in awe. Situated at an altitude of 1740m, it is a major eco-tourism centre and a challenging venue for any adventure seeking tourist. Legends and myths abound in the region surrounding the Brahmagiri hills, and it is believed that saints and godmen during their wanderings took shelter in the numerous caves that dot the rocky hillocks here.

Pakshipathalam is a formation of large boulders, and home to several species of birds. It is an ornithologist's paradise. There is a large avian colony- mainly around the natural rock cave, which also provides a home to small animals, bats and some distinctive species of plants. Wildlife in the area includes various rare species of birds besides elephants, tigers, jungle cats, civets, bison, peacocks, wood peckers etc. Bird watchers can view some exotic species of birds from the watch tower of the bird sanctuary which is situated nearby. Another major attraction of Pakshipathalam is a cave where ancient rishis or saints were believed to have meditated.

The trek to Pakshipathalam is quite unique as it lies in the Brahmagiri hills on the border of Kerala & Karnataka. Trekking here however, requires permission from the forest department. The place draws a significant number of nature lovers and bird watchers during the summer months. The District Tourism Promotion Council can be approached to arrange vehicles, guides and camping apparatus.

Moderate level trekking. Best time is October to december. If you are planning in any of other months then you can just enjoy the trek but the real beauty of this is in month of oct to dec.

This was a great trip. The hiking was incredible and out guide was so good. The hikes were all different and some of the most beautiful scenery ever. I can't wait to do another trip
